If we are to survive and thrive as a species, we must consciously shift our mission from individual survival to species thrival. cravings4Have you ever craved a food so bad that you are oblivious to everything else that is happening around you?

Cravings are much different than hunger, and it is important to separate the two. Hunger is controlled by the stomach and craving by the brain. Hunger is all about your survival mechanism and craving is all about your body communicating with you.

Hunger is a signal from your body that it needs food for energy, and it will provide us with cues such as a growling stomach or hunger pangs to alert us.  Hunger can be satisfied by eating any type of food.

Cravings are  foods that you desire, that are not a necessity, and unlike hunger, will only be satisfied by consuming that specific food.  Typically, these cravings are in response to a lack in the nutrients that our body desires.
